Excuse the interruption to my January Series. I'll be back on Monday with the final installment. But I wanted to share more about our journey to adoption.
Two weeks ago we FINALLY began the adoption process. The girls don't know it yet (thank goodness for privacy settings), but we're pretty much just a few weeks out. This coming Wednesday we'll be at our (hopefully) last permanency round table. Basically it's a meeting where our team (case workers, home supervisors, guardian ad litem, mediator, foster parents, foster kids and anyone else involved in the case) gets together to talk about the permanency of the kids in our home. After we're done with that meeting, we have one final meeting before we schedule our appointment with the attorney. At that meeting we'll sign our "official" paperwork before we go before the judge and declare the girls HEADLEYS!
They are working on picking out new middle names. I remember being so excited about changing my name when I got married. It made me feel more connected; one with him. They've decided to change their last names to be "legally" connected to us. They tried changing their first names, but it was difficult for them as they've been called their names their whole lives. Duh! It was an easy transition for me to go from "Katie" to "Kate", but to go from "Breanna" to "Teagan"...it's a little bit more difficult. I think calling them by their new names lasted a whole 2 days. As far as middle names, not many go by them, so it's an easier change. They're super excited!
We can't wait for all of the chaos to come to an end...HAHA...life will continue to be crazy, but we'll eliminate a little of the cray...maybe.
See you on Monday!
xo, Kate
