Breathe.
Amid the beautiful chaos that is my life with my Man and 2 kiddos, I sometimes sit behind locked doors (bathroom, bedroom, coat closet...) listening to my breath. I just breathe and listen. I feel every breath fill me up. I feel the peace that surrounds me in that moment. I feel relaxed, even for that brief time. Try it. It's calming and we all know us Mamas need a little quiet time here and there.
That's the feeling I get with Breathe. The author, Jaimie Bowman, wrote a simple 31-day devotional for moms. I was excited to get this opportunity to review her first book, which she self-published. That's a pretty amazing feat. I'm always on the look out for new devotionals. Why? Because I struggle with my quiet times. I have every intention of doing them before the family gets up. I have every intention to spend time in real reflection, which for me is a good 30-45 minutes.
I have been working on being intentional in a few areas of my life and this one in particular is my biggest struggle. Breathe gives you a starting base to "get back into the practice of setting aside a time with God each day."

Each day is separated into 3 sections; the devotional, a prayer, and reflection questions. The devotional and prayers are short and sweet. I LOVE the reflection questions because they make me dive a little deeper; plus, I get to write. Jaimie notes the devotional will take about 10 minutes. I can see how it could take a minimum of 10 minutes, but with the questions and if you like to write, it adds an extra 10-20 minutes. I know not everyone has time to sit down, read the devotional and the prayer, and expand on the reflection questions all in one sitting. We are busy mamas. There is always something; dishes to do, laundry to wash and fold...or wash again because it has been left in the washer for who knows how long (so I've heard)...,rooms to clean...etc.
So what did I do? I split the time. I read the devotional and the prayer in the morning while drinking my oh-so-needed cup of chocolate coffee (Mmm..give me the pot!). BOOM! You're done! Then after I was done getting ready for bed, I took the extra time to sit down and do the reflection questions. BAM! The Spirit gets His lesson in.
Everyone's devotional time looks different. Just remember, God wants a relationship. He. Will. Meet. You. Just give Him the time.
So take these precious minutes to savor this time to Breathe Him in.
